10 TV Shows To Fill That Doctor Who Shaped Void

8. Arrow

Arrow is based on DC€™s Green Arrow, a costumed vigilante cast from the Batman mould. No super powers as such, but rich, fit as a butcher€™s dog, and just a little bit nuts. And the similarities with Doctor Who are strong, if you think about it. A lonely man with a passion for justice, riven by guilt for the crimes he has committed in the name of sanity. He has blood on his hands but bends over backwards to defeat his enemies without killing them. He doesn€™t use guns (often) and wears an elaborate costume. He keeps his real name secret from the world and relies on loyal friends who would lay down their lives for him. He keeps kissing his girl companions. Differences? Well, the Doctor did match Robin Hood in an archery contest but only because he used a remote controlled arrow. The Doctor also lives in the TARDIS rather than beneath a night club. Need more reasons to watch Arrow? Well, John Barrowman is a cast regular as an enemy/mentor of The Arrow (it€™s complicated). He isn€™t Captain Jack but he's an assassin known as the Magician. If that doesn€™t do it, then how about rare appearances by Alex Kingston? Her character Dinah Lance is as alike to River Song as Rory Williams is to Jack Bauer. Proof if needed that the lady can act.

Older than some and taller than most. Grey of eye and white of beard. Stephen's book 'Hiding', about a boy who meets a goblin in a local wood, is available to download from the usual places. Think of it as a scavenger hunt.
