10 TV Shows To Fill That Doctor Who Shaped Void

7. Sherlock

There's a vocal group of Whovians who don€™t like Steven Moffat. There's also a larger and quieter group who think he€™s pretty good. The same could be said of Mark Gatiss though the debate is on a more modest and restrained level. If only they would collaborate to make some other show in between seasons of Doctor Who. Oh wait... they do. Sherlock! The concept is simple enough. What if Sherlock Holmes, plus his friends and foes, had been born 120 years later and were active today? This Holmes€™ cases are inspired by original Conan Doyle stories but events veer wildly from the originals. Mr Moffat plays his usual mind-bending tricks with intricate plots and flashback reveals. There€™s plenty of humour for viewers, both for those with no knowledge of Conan Doyle and for veteran Holmes fans alike. If you like Moffat and Gatiss then this is for you. Kids can watch but expect most of it to go over their heads. Sometimes this show tries to be too clever. The reason Sherlock isn€™t higher on this list is that episodes are as rare as hen€™s teeth. Each series is only 3 episodes long and they come two years apart. Don€™t burn yourself out lads, will you? Come to think of it, more time spent on Sherlock means less Doctor Who. As you were, Moffatt and Gatiss. As you were.

Older than some and taller than most. Grey of eye and white of beard. Stephen's book 'Hiding', about a boy who meets a goblin in a local wood, is available to download from the usual places. Think of it as a scavenger hunt.
