We could let The Vampire Diaries off because it borrowed its title from the books on which it's based, but it's notable for the sheer speed with which it disposed of any connection to its title. Well, there are still a lot of vampires, but the title refers to the diaries written by protagonists Elena and Stefan which are very rarely mentioned after the first handful of season one episodes. Unusually, this was received joyfully by fans who couldn't listen to Elena's tearful narration of her diary entries week after week. The series does still feature journals and diaries every so often; most recently, Stefan's diaries make an appearance when he loses his memory in season five. However, it has distanced itself from its source material to such an extent that the title is doubly misleading.
