Fresh Meat is an excellent British comedy about six undergrads attending a fictional university in Manchester who live together. In the first series, they were indeed freshers, and the perfect caricatures of the sort of people you briefly meet in those messy first few weeks of uni: the nice guy, the posh one, the earnest one, the one who's trying too hard, the wild one and the loner. Their characters deepen and develop throughout the show, but they also move on from first year to second. Typically, the series undercuts this with a hilarious subplot in which the eternally hipster Oregon tries to act experienced and edgy in front of new fresher and housemate Candice while also competing with her. It's so good that it almost gets away with outgrowing its title, but it couldn't avoid a place on this list.
