Extras was about as straightforward a title as you'll find. It started as a series about struggling actors working as extras in films, and was a very entertaining excuse for Ricky Gervais and some game celebrities to make fun of themselves. In the second series, Andy's sitcom is finally picked up and he no longer has to work as an extra, although he still has a plausible excuse to hang out with celebrities now that he's in a starring role himself. It turned out that cringe comedy and celebrity cameos were always far more important to the success of Extras than the original premise, and it remained a fun show throughout its thirteen episodes even as the title's relevance diminished.
