10 TV Shows You Were Ready To Hate
3. Resident Evil
Resident Evil as a franchise is no stranger to Hollywood. Having been introduced to the big screen through a whopping six films starring Mila Jovovich, and recently received a reboot in Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, it finally received its moment on the small screen in 2022 with a Netflix original television series. Unfortunately, it did so to the joy of very few people.
As with all video game adaptations, the apprehension of pre-existing fans was to be expected, with concerns that the source material would be mishandled. Resident Evil already had a slate of movies under its belt, all of which had been received varying levels of poorly by critics and fans despite being commercially successful. Producing yet another version of the horror title in the hope that it wouldn’t turn out like every dud before it seemed like the very definition of insanity!
This assessment was proven absolutely correct upon release of the series, when viewing audiences tuned in to find a show that maybe, just barely held a faint whiff of the games it was based on. Which would be absolutely fine, no matter what die-hard fans say, if it was actually any good - but it wasn’t. Despite Lance Reddick’s valiant efforts in providing a genuinely commendable performance as key villain Albert Wesker, one man cannot save a show alone, and the middling critical reception combined with extreme fan backlash saw the show cancelled soon after release.
