10 Underrated Sci-Fi TV Shows You Need To Watch
2. Futurama
Matt Groening transformed TV with The Simpsons, the series that his name will be tied to forever, but he was also the mind behind Futurama.
It told the story for Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy who accidentally sends himself one thousand years into the future on New Year's Eve 1999. When he wakes up, the world is a much different place. He makes new friends and finds a job working for his descendant as a delivery boy. That seems about right.
While the series had critical support and a devoted fan base, it never became the mass cultural phenomenon The Simpsons continues to be. Futurama is a smart show filled with big laughs and great use of the sci-fi genre. It's one of those series that people hear about but not nearly enough have watched.
Just be careful when you reach the episode about Fry's dog. It's a heart-breaker that sticks with you.
