7. The Master Eating People - The End Of Time Part One

John Simm's portrayal of The Master is, on the whole, one that deserves to be counted among the very best in Doctor Who's history. But his frantic, grinning energy that worked so well in Series 3's The Sound of Drums and Last of the Time Lords is dialled up way too far here.

All of his terrifying mannerisms just devolve into villain cliché as he literally shoots lightning out of his hands and turns into a questionable X-Ray effect every so often. One scene in particular is clearly meant to make the audience shiver at how much more unhinged the Master is now. But it's so over the top that you can't help but laugh.

Soon after being resurrected from his death in Last of the Time Lords, The Master goes to a burger van and strikes up a conversation with two men who are also eating their food. Once he's finished devouring his burger, he chases the two men and leaps about fifty feet into the air before devouring them both, skeleton effect flashing on and off all the while.

The Russell T Davies era of the show was often celebrated for its unashamed embracing of camp. But it's hard to deny that they went a little overboard with this one.

Owen Davies hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
