10 Unintentionally Funny Doctor Who Moments

4. Pursued By Professor Lazarus - The Lazarus Experiment

It does feel somewhat unfair to keep making fun of early NuWho's special effects. By all accounts, the production team were given an absolutely miniscule budget by the BBC, especially in comparison to other science fiction programmes. But the fact is that a lot of the moments that were intended to provoke screams give laughs instead mostly because of the wonky CGI.

The Lazarus Experiment is another body horror-tinged episode. Professor Lazarus, played by frequent Doctor Who contributor Mark Gatiss, is an old scientist who uses a machine to make himself young. But an unfortunate side effect is that it turns him into a grotesque monster.

Naturally, we get a scene with the Doctor being chased through Lazarus Laboratories by the incredibly fake-looking beast. It quickly becomes quite obvious that the actors are all reacting to nothing, despite the production team doing their best to make the set shake and wobble as Lazarus comes crashing through.

The decision to have Lazarus' real face visible was also an odd one and ends up making some of the monster's expression, such as confusion when it can't find the Doctor and Martha Jones, more like a sitcom scene than a horror adventure.

Owen Davies hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
