10 Unluckiest Doctor Who Characters

7. Peri Brown

Though he possessed all the inhuman quirks and seething anger that his other incarnations also carry, the Fifth Doctor was a really nice chap overall.

As a companion of his for a brief period of time, Peri Brown got to witness his charms first hand - so imagine her shock when he died, went all glowy, turned into another man, and started strangling her on the floor of the TARDIS.

"WTF" is probably the emotion she was feeling in that moment.

This alone makes Peri one of the unluckiest companions we've seen in the show, and while her relationship with the Sixth Doctor did improve from here (it couldn't really get any worse than a throttling, could it?), it still wasn't great: he was pretty rude towards her on a regular basis, again putting her in an unfortunate situation.

Her fortunes didn't improve with her departure from the show, either. She was shaved bald and used as a host for an alien called Kiv, and then, just for an extra sprinkle of bad luck, she went off and married Brian Blessed.

Don't get us wrong, we love Brian Blessed, but having to listen to that booming voice 24/7 would drive us crazy.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
