10 Upcoming Comic Book TV Shows You Need To Know About

5. Lucifer

Another one that's definitely happening is this Fox show which draws on the fan-favourite comic book series Lucifer. Mainly written by Mike Carey €“ who recently got into straight fiction with his novel The Girl With All The Gifts €“ this was another Vertigo series, which spun directly out of Neil Gaiman's best-selling and incredibly influential Sandman series. For many, Lucifer managed to be even better than Sandman. It sounds like heresy, but they have a point. Lucifer was often a lot easier to follow than Sandman, without ever sacrificing the storytelling nuance or weird occult references. The comic centred on the former ruler of Hell going walkabout, setting up a piano bar called "Lux" in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the TV series €“ whose pilot is being penned by Californication creator Tom Kapinos €“ is junking most of that delightfully off-beat premise, instead having Lucifer work as a homicide detective in LA. Because people can never get enough of cop shows, apparently. It'll likely have no connection to Sandman, either.
