5. Lucifer
Another one that's definitely happening is this Fox show which draws on the fan-favourite comic book series Lucifer. Mainly written by Mike Carey who recently got into straight fiction with his novel The Girl With All The Gifts this was another Vertigo series, which spun directly out of Neil Gaiman's best-selling and incredibly influential Sandman series. For many, Lucifer managed to be even better than Sandman. It sounds like heresy, but they have a point. Lucifer was often a lot easier to follow than Sandman, without ever sacrificing the storytelling nuance or weird occult references. The comic centred on the former ruler of Hell going walkabout, setting up a piano bar called "Lux" in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, the TV series whose pilot is being penned by Californication creator Tom Kapinos is junking most of that delightfully off-beat premise, instead having Lucifer work as a homicide detective in LA. Because people can never get enough of cop shows, apparently. It'll likely have no connection to Sandman, either.
