The Original: The ‘90s TV series revolved around five siblings who were left to cope with the struggles of life after their parents died in a car wreck. The drama built up a loyal following and touched upon everything from depression to domestic abuse. By the time the show wrapped in 2000, it had picked up numerous accolades and made household names of actors Jennifer Love Hewitt, Neve Campbell, and Matthew Fox.
The Reboot: Party of Five gets an all-new cast this time around. (The show’s original stars are no longer kids after all.) The reformatted version, which will premiere on the Freeform network, will now have an immigration angle. The new series will focus on the five Buendias children struggling to cope with life after their parents are deported back to Mexico.
Chance Of Survival: The immigration twist seems like a smart and relevant move. As for how well the writers and cast are able to connect with the audience and deliver earnest storylines, well, that’s anybody’s guess.
