10 Upcoming TV Shows That Will Break The Internet

7. Peacemaker

"Two jerks in costumes and a couple of rejects..."

That's one of the lines spouted during the trailer for HBO Max's immediately-impending Peacemaker series. And by all accounts, that seems a fairly apt way to describe the general basis of the show.

Due to premiere in a matter of days as of this writing, this James Gunn-created series serves as a follow-up to Gunn's The Suicide Squad. Centring on John Cena's titular Christopher Smith from that movie, Peacemaker will explore Smith's origins whilst also picking things up in the aftermath of Gunn's 2021 picture.

For those who missed The Suicide Squad and aren't familiar with this admittedly D-list DC Comics character, Peacemaker is a villain who goes to extreme lengths to achieve peace. Often a hero in his own mind, Cena's iteration of the rogue is doused in the humour we've come to expect from Gunn in his Guardians of the Galaxy films.

As for the "two jerks" of this eight-episode show, the other jerk is Vigilante. Played by Harry Potter's Freddie Stroma, Adrian Chase is a lawyer by day and a masked, err, vigilante by night. While these two masked sorts will find themselves in with their own ragtag team here, it's also worth keeping your eye out for T2's Robert Patrick as Peacemaker's nefarious father.

The first three episodes of Peacemaker land on HBO Max on 13 January, with the other five episodes released on a weekly basis.
