The ultimate 'break glass in case of emergency' trick, the return of Billie Piper would be a surefire hit. Yes, it's been done before but giving the audience time to appreciate why they loved the show in the first place is surely not a bad thing.
The internet went into meltdown when rumours of Billie's return circulated last year, but so far these rumours have not led to the fruition of Rose's return, although with Captain Jack and the Master already returning for Season 12 there's no reason Ms Tyler won't as well.
If our wishes don't come true for this season, then this is something that just HAS to happen for Whittaker's final season. The relationship with the female Doctor could prove very interesting indeed, with a whole new dynamic to be explored. Is there still a romantic connection? Do they not warm to each other? Does Rose feel deceived? Or does a new platonic form of relationship develop?
The dream combo would be a Tennant/Piper double act, with the 'Metacrisis Doctor' returning alongside his (presumed) wife. Even better, the show could ditch the current format and follow the adventures of the Metacrisis Doctor and Rose on the parallel earth. Ah, one can only dream.
