4. Mostly Useless Law Enforcement
On Veronica Mars: After the scandal surrounding Sheriff Keith Mars' handling of the Lilly Kane murder, he was ousted from his position and replaced by the lazy and incompetent Sheriff Don Lamb. Almost exclusively investigating cases that were politically safe for his career and rarely digging deeply enough to uncover any real dirt, Lamb was an ongoing antagonist from within the system for Veronica for most of the show's original run. While he had a few moments of altruism to recommend him, he was more of a hindrance than a help to Veronica as she caught criminals for him. There were a few good eggs in the Neptune Police Department, but Lamb's incompetency usually eclipsed their usefulness. On iZombie: After Blaine went on a chomping spree throughout Seattle and transformed legions of unsuspecting civilians into zombies, he turns police lieutenant Suzuki into a zombie to cover his tracks as he murders street kids to harvest their brains. Suzuki provides Blaine with information and assistance in exchange for a steady supply of snackable cerebellum. While giving off the appearance of a highly effective officer of the law, his interference prevents Major from finding justice for the murdered youngsters and allows Blaine to continue his spree uninhibited. Since the season finale saw him blown to smithereens, however, his interference within the SPD has come to an end.
