10 Weirdest Adverts Featuring Star Trek Actors

1. National Power - William Shatner And James Doohan

This advert for the National Power and Powergen from the early nineties is everything. William Shatner and James Doohan reprise their roles as Captain Kirk and Scotty respectively in what quickly becomes one minute and a half of pure, unadulterated fun.

Kirk and an away mission are caught under a meteor shower on a planet, signalling 'Scotty, Beam Us Up!'. Back onboard the Enterprise, Scotty quickly finds he doesn't have enough power to do so. The ad was designed to encourage new customers to join the now privately owned National Power/Powergen grid, ensuring they would never be caught in a situation like Scotty and Kirk.

The ad has a host of best moments. Kirk barks that they need more power and Scotty turns to the camera and grumbles 'the man's power-mad!'. Doohan made sure that line was clear as a bell. Kirk and a female away team member are then beamed up, with their heads swapped to each other's bodies. Naturally, Kirk begins to explore, prompting his colleague to slap him hard around the face.

The ad is like a mini-episode, albeit not one that would ever air as part of the main series. However, if Mike McMahon is reading, it would make for a fantastic episode of Star Trek: Lower Decks.
