While many other mothers across Rick and Morty’s fellow animated shows are projected almost as the boring housewife, the same cannot be said about Beth Smith. She is actually one of the most complicated and complex characters in the entire show.

With a dad that left her at a young age, a teenage pregnancy that led to an unhappy marriage, and more than one identity crisis, she felt lost. Rick created a clone of his own daughter and while one went out into space to have adventures like her dad, the other stayed home as a mother and wife. Even Rick doesn’t know which is which.

In the years since this revelation, Space Beth has been known to return to spend some time with the Smiths on occasion, and neither seems to care which is the clone and which isn’t.

As far as they are concerned they are the same women, which is what makes their love affair behind Jerry’s back so weird. Beth thought it made her either the healthiest or unhealthiest woman in the world that she fell in love with herself, but either way you look at it, it’s just plain weird.
