10 Wibbly Wobbly Ways Doctor Who Plays With Space/Time

5. Hidden in Plain Sight

Monsters in the Doctor Who universe often use restricted perceptions of space/time against their prey. In €œThe Eleventh Hour€ (series 5), Amy has spent years living in a house with an extra room that she never notices until the Doctor points it out to her. In €œThe Lodger€ (series 5), Craig is unaware that the two story house he is renting should be only one floor. The Doctor encourages his companions to learn to see beyond the evidence of their eyes, to accept that there is more to the universe than what they physically perceive, to expand their awareness of space and time and to let go of their preconceptions. Conversely, the Doctor is so cognizant of all of space and time that he often can€™t see what is right in front of him. When Rory reappeared as a Roman centurion a few episodes after he had been killed and erased in time, the Doctor took quite a while to realize he wasn€™t supposed to be there or really exist at all. In €œAngels Take Manhattan€(series 7), he knows there€™s something different about Amy but can€™t figure out she now uses reading glasses. He also doesn€™t see River€™s broken wrist until he physically tries to grab her hand.
