10 Worst Doctor Who Episodes Of All Time

5. A Christmas Carol

While the underwhelming first season under Steven Moffat's watch was a concern, the worries really kicked in after this abomination of an episode. While we're not sure if Moffat was trying to be meta, the fact that the episode quite literally has The Doctor jumping a shark is very fitting.

Moffat's first Christmas special feels extremely lazy, incorporating The Christmas Carol into the story presumably because he couldn't think of any other Christmas themes or stories. We end up with Amy and Rory stuck on a plane that is crashing for some reason, and for some reason the only way the Doctor can save their lives is by convincing a grumpy old man that Christmas is fun.

The whole caper gets more and more bizarre, but when a mysterious female entity appears to sing a flying shark to sleep, the emotional bankruptcy of the episode is laid bare. A tacked on love story between Grumpy Man and Mysterious Female entity drags on terminally before the episode ends with everyone flying off on a shark-drawn sleigh to finally put us out of our misery.
