10 Worst Sci-Fi TV Characters Of All Time

1. Wesley Crusher - Star Trek: The Next Generation

Shut up, Wesley!

The Boy Wonder of the USS Enterprise was what some might call a Gary Stu. Inescapably perfect at just about everything he did, Wesley’s prodigious talent and intellect proved less than stellar entertainment for viewers. An annoying youngster at the best of times, watching Wesley repeatedly save the day was an embarrassing ohasefor this classic series. Wesley’s confidence frequently came off as arrogance, further infuriating fans and critics during the show’s first year on the air.

Far too much screen time was put into hammering home the sheer perfection of young Wesley, his genius, his bravery, his vital importance to everything. Many have theorised that Wesley was in fact an ego massage for show creator Gene Roddenberry (whose middle name just happens to be Wesley). It is curious to note that Wesley’s prominence dwindled in direct correlation to Roddenberry’s reduced involvement in the show in the second season.

Actor Wil Wheaton would eventually leave the series and has since expressed a similar level of disdain for the character as the fans who watched him. An experiment that didn’t pay off, Wesley is now and forever a key example of how not to write a sci-fi character.
