The Scrappy Doo of the Buffyverse rubbed fans the wrong way for three straight seasons. She gets off to a bad start when we realise four seasons of Buffy have been invalidated thanks to the spell to bring her into being.

Our favourite characters now recall a different timeline where Dawn had been there from the pilot, driving a wedge between us and the characters we’d watched grow for years.

Loud, rude and with a penchant for kleptomania, Dawn contributes little to the series beyond being in need of a good rescue every other episode. While Michelle Tratchenberg does a convincing job of the character, the story arc itself is frequently a mess and wreaked of writers’ block.

After a lacklustre Season 4 (Adam’s definitely a dishonourable mention for this list), Buffy Season 5 sees a lot of pole shifts getting thrown at the wall: fan favourite villain Spike falling in love with Buffy, Giles and Anya running a magic shop and Dracula making an appearance were ones that worked. Getting a teenager to play a character written like a ten year old was not.

Despite Buffy sacrificing her own life to save Dawn at one point, Dawn still helps get Buffy kicked out of her own home in season 7. That alone makes her straight up despicable.
