10 Worst Star Trek: Next Generation Episodes

1. Shades Of Gray (Season 2 Episode 22)

Beverly Crusher Ghost
CBS

Riker returns from a mission severely injured and infected with unknown microbes. These microbes are slowly but surely taking over Riker's nervous system and terminating the virus could result in killing him too. In Pulaski's attempt to stimulate brain function, Riker recalls old events from The Enterprise.

Why It Sucks: It's a clip show, ladies and gentlemen. So often a clip show is used by sitcoms when the writers are having an off-day and decide to phone it in by replaying some of the more beloved clips from past episodes but considering they were only in season 2 at the time it feels like an incredibly lazy and insulting choice. Sure there was a writers strike at the time and I'm sure they had run out of money (considering it was the final episode of season 2) but imagine the disappointment of looking forward to watching the season finale only to find an episode consisting of old clips. So poor.

What Doesn't Suck: I suppose clip shows were more acceptable back in the late 80s when your favourite moments weren't readily available at the click of a button or buried in your DVD collection.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
