10 Worst Star Trek: Next Generation Episodes

5. The Loss (Season 4 Episode 10)

Beverly Crusher Ghost
Paramount

Deanna loses her empathetic powers and decides to quit The Enterprise. Meanwhile, an unknown two-dimensional entity has taken over and is towing the ship into danger.

Why It Sucks: I don't know what it is about the Star Trek TNG writers but they really struggled when it came to finding a good character arc for Deanna Troi. Ok, she loses her powers, that's not a bad start but they make her absolutely insufferable throughout the episode. I don't know if it was an artistic choice from Marina Sirtis or a poor piece of direction from behind the lens but she comes across as a spoiled brat. Considering she is supposed to be one of the famous Starfleet's best and brightest, she throws in the towel quite quickly in this episode.

What Doesn't Suck: Some absolute genius has edited the final scene, where Troi gets her powers back, to make it seem like she farts every time she gets up from her chair. Childish? Maybe. Hilarious? Absolutely. It's called Wind On The Bridge and it's 27 seconds long if you care to take a look.

I see my role at WhatCulture the same way my wife sees my role as a lover: I contribute in a very small way, my presence is barely noticeable and I’m not entirely sure if the laughter is at me or with me.
