10 X-Files Fates Worse Than Death

3. Botched Lobotomies

Losing control of your mind is one thing, but what if you lose all sense of perception whatsoever?

This was a focus of the 1996 episode, Unruhe in which women are abducted and subjected to botched lobotomies. The effects were irreversible and, after being returned, these poor women had to spend the rest of their lives as vegetables.

Their attacker, Gerry Schnauz (Pruitt Taylor Vince), believed that he had cured them from the "howlers" afflicting them in doing this. He then set his sights on Special Agent Dana Scully and, if it were not for a fortuitous distraction and the timely arrival of Mulder, she may have shared the same fate.

Nevertheless, in the wake of Scully's rescue, you can't help but think that the others will never be the same again.

I started writing for WhatCulture in July 2020. I have always enjoyed reading and writing. I have contributed to several short story competitions and I have occasionally been fortunate enough to have my work published. During the COVID-19 lockdown, I also started reviewing films on my Facebook page. Numerous friends and contacts suggested that I should start my own website for reviewing films, but I wanted something a bit more diverse - and so here I am! My interests focus on film and television mainly, but I also occasionally produce articles that venture into other areas as well. In particular, I am a fan of the under appreciated sequel (of which there are many), but I also like the classics and the mainstream too.
