11 Best Doctor Who Moments Of 2013

10. The Girl Who Saves The Doctor

In 2012 the audience, like the Doctor had already met two distinct versions of Clara Oswald that both died tragic deaths in the middle of helping the Doctor. There was much speculation about how a seemingly ordinary girl from twenty first century London was capable of living and dying twice over in two different encounters with the 11th Doctor. In Moffat's tenure as show runner his seasons have been driven by mysteries (cracks in time, death of the Doctor) and now in 2013 it was Clara's enigmatic existence that served as larger mystery of the second half of Series 7. Clara Oswald's timey wimey story arc came to culmination in the Series 7 finale "The Name of The Doctor". Clara's ability to appear as different versions of herself to the Doctor was revealed to be caused by Clara stepping into the Doctor's timeline in order to save him from the manipulations of the villainous Great Intelligence who had also stepped into the Doctor's timeline. It's a very complex reveal that is better explained in "The Name Of The Doctor". It was a reveal that Doctor Who fans had been anticipating throughout Series 7 and proved to be a powerful moment in Doctor Who fandom. The opening montage of Clara appearing as echoes of herself helping past regenerations of the Doctor made for a fantastic montage of nostalgia that had Doctor Who fans foaming at the mouth. In 2013 we learned the true reason behind Clara's nickname "The Impossible Girl". She was impossible not only for her mysterious appearances, but because she did the impossible and saved a legend like The Doctor several times over.
