11 Famous Faces You Never Knew Were Doctor Who Fans
4. George Lucas
As the man behind one of the film industry's most beloved and notorious science fiction brands, it'll be no surprise for you to hear that the premise of Doctor Who ticks all the fan boy boxes for Star Wars creator George Lucas. Like the franchise of movies - and the subsequent plethora of TV shows, games, books and endless supplies of other cross-media counterparts (seriously, you can't move for Star Wars these days...) - that Lucas is renowned for bringing unto the world, the foundations of Doctor Who are also built on the concept of space travel and intergalactic incursions. The history of Doctor Who has even seen its fair share of unruly heroes and that's not to mention its multitude of questionable monsters and wobbly sets to boot, though something tells us that, for Star Wars at least, the latter will have been eradicated in Disney's upcoming billion dollar reboot. For now, the Doctor will have to contend with the limitations of the BBC taxpayers' budget. Sigh. What's more, it's even been speculated (particularly by those who dedicate their time to overthrowing Lucas' almighty reign on pop culture) that some aspects of his far reaching Star Wars universe were taken directly from the televisual adventures of everybody's favourite Time Lord. It might not even be such a far leap from the truth, either, if you take a closer look at the evidence. Until a bigger on the inside blue police box materialises on the Death Star and Darth Vader does battle with a metal pepperpot, though (spoilers - that's actually the plot of The Force Awakens right there), there's nothing to suggest that Star Wars is soaked in plagiarism. The Doctor inspired it, at least, and that's a complement to the imagination and ambition of the show's original production team if anything.
