11 Forgotten Christmas Specials You Probably Haven't Seen
7. The Stingiest Man In Town Another adaptation of Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," (and another story one could do an entire list of adaptations) this one from 1978 stars Walter Matthau as Scrooge, and Tom Bosley as the omniscient narrator, Mr B.A.H. Humbug, Esq. Matthau's hangdog delivery made him a great Scrooge Like so many of their work, the character designs were by Mad magazine artist Paul Coker Jr - the traditionally animated specials like this one look so much like his work, it's almost like he drew it all himself. Robert Morse plays the young Scrooge, and Theo Bikel played Marley's ghost. Paul Frees provided the voices of both the ghosts of Christmases past and Future. It's based on an even older live action version, with Basil Rathbone in the title role. All the songs come from the original. As a result, this special has a much different feel than most R/B classics, even with the updating by Romeo Muller.
