5. The Night The Animals Talked
Another story with a heavy religious base, this one tells the story of the Christ-child's birth, when apparently the animals in the stable all gained the power of speech and intelligence. Based on a Norwegian folk tale, and originally adapted as a record by Peter Fernandez (the voice of Speed Racer), it was directed by animation legend Shamus Culhane. As the animals first realize they can speak, they fall into in-fighting and tribalism that more than a little resembles Animal Farm. But as Mary gives birth and they're overcome with the event, their interspecies conflict melts away. They head out into the streets to share the good news, but as they pass out of the miracle Another solid entry that lost ground due to the religious aspect of the TV celebration.
