8. Luke Cage Season 2

While it certainly has its critics, Luke Cage Season 1 largely continued the form of Netflix's previous Marvel shows, featuring a phenomenal first half that included one of the finest performances the MCU had ever seen in Mahershala Ali's Cottonmouth. Mike Colter too has been brilliant as the title character, and while The Defenders failed to capitalise on the momentum set by the original trio of Netflix titles, it did leave Luke in an interesting position, particularly in regards to his relationship with Jessica Jones.

While yes, the second season will have to deal with the addition of Finn Jones' Iron Fist (who only marginally improved throughout The Defenders), it still has all the components to be a fantastic superhero show. Simone Missick will return as Misty Knight (now with a bionic arm), as will Rosario Dawson, Alfre Woodward and Theo Rossi. Thomas Q. Jones is billed to play the part of Comanche, a villain from the comics, and there are even hints we could be seeing the inception of Heroes for Hire - Cage and Iron Fist's crimefighting enterprise that was briefly teased over the summer.

Lucy Liu will direct the first episode, having already directed four episodes of Elementary, which only adds to the excitement surrounding the show. Here's hoping it manages to avoid the dreaded mid-season lull its cohorts haven't.
