12 Abandoned Doctor Who Subplots

9. Ryan's Dyspraxia

Maybe not abandoned per se, more largely forgotten.

The reaction to Tosin Cole's character with a disability was overwhelmingly positive, and personally heartfelt to those who have dyspraxia.

We saw the everyday challenges Ryan Sinclair faced in the first few episodes of series 11: learning to ride a bike, climbing ladders. Actions most of us take for granted. And although this was briefly touched upon in the series 12 opener, Spyfall, you would be forgiven for forgetting he has dyspraxia after those early episodes.

It's emblematic of not enough individual focus on his character development in general - likewise with Yaz - because of the current three's a crowd companion dynamic, a genuine complaint levelled at the show many times.

Moreover, with strong rumours of Cole leaving - along with Bradley Walsh - during the next festive special, it seems Ryan won't be topping regular favourites Rose Tyler and Donna Noble on those best companion lists. Daresay not even above Adric. No, sorry, that's too harsh.

The name's Colbourn, James - yeah, doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
