12 Abandoned Doctor Who Subplots

7. The Legacy Of Adelaide Brooke

Doctor Who The Day of the Doctor John Hurt War Doctor
BBC Studios

Now this is a subplot that should be explored:

"Imagine it, Adelaide. If you began a journey that takes the human race all the way out to the stars. It begins with you, and then your granddaughter. You inspire her. So that in 30 years, Susie Fontana Brooke is the pilot of the first lightspeed ship to Proxima Centauri. And then everywhere! With her children, and her children's children, forging the way, to the Dragon Star, the Celestial Belt of the Winter Queen, the Map of the Water Snake Wormholes - one day a Brooke will even fall in love with a Tandonian prince, and that's the start of a whole new species. But everything starts with you, Adelaide. From 50 years ago, to right here, today. Imagine."

Imagine we can! Sadly, it's all we can do. Steven Moffat once said "we could spend Avatar's budget and still ask for more, because it's a show that's set in every point in history and every place in the universe." Indeed, it would be amazing to combine the cinematography from Roger Deakins or Hoyte van Hoytema with the budget of Infinity War/Endgame, to truly render the awe-inspiring wonder of the above.

In fact, there really ought to be a spin-off series created, charting the Brooke family odyssey throughout the cosmos. There we are: "Brooke's Odyssey". That or we'll settle for either Susie or one of her descendants encountering the Doctor one day...

The name's Colbourn, James - yeah, doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
