12 Best MCU Disney+ Episodes So Far (According To IMDb)
6. What If... Doctor Strange Lost His Hands Instead Of His Heart (What If...? - Ep 4) - 8.9
The MCU has made a habit of characters having to fight themselves throughout the franchise. Nebula, Captain America, Vision, and Loki have all had to square off with a different version of themselves, though none of these can compare with Stephen Strange. The only sorcerer strong enough to stop Doctor Strange, was Doctor Strange.
What If…? was always going to be something different for the MCU, and while this story was certainly different, and unlike anything ever seen in the franchise before, the tone for this chapter was also unprecedented.
Even for What If…?, a series that showed multiple deaths of multiple Avengers, a world infested with zombies, and a post-apocalyptic future, this was by far the darkest episode there was. Doctor Strange had his heart broken by the Absolute Point that was Christine Palmer’s death, and was overtaken by desperation, depression, and grief, before bringing the entire universe to an end around him.
Marvel Studios has mastered the light-hearted, funny side of superhero stories over the years, but since the close of the Infinity Saga, there have been more excellent stories told around grief, with Doctor Strange losing his heart arguably being one of the greatest.
