Based on sci-fi writer Robert J Sawyer’s 1999 novel of the same name, 2009’s one season wonder Flashforward had an ingenious premise and boasted a pretty stellar cast including future Searching star (and former MILF guy) John Cho and Joseph Fiennes of The Handmaid’s Tale fame. The show followed an FBI team investigating a mysterious incident, the titular flashforward, wherein the world lost consciousness and everyone got a glimpse of their life six months into the future.

This flashforward had a variety of effects which inevitably prompted existential questions of fate and destiny which worked well with the show’s fast-paced procedural format.

However, the series was criticized for its talky, thoughtful tone and lifeless visual palette, prompting the network to cancel the promising series after only a single season. Guess that’s what we get for hoping to see something cerebral in our sci-fi…
