12 Critically Reviled Sci-Fi TV Shows (That Weren't Actually That Bad)

7. Dimension 404

Released in 2017, the blackly comic sci-fi anthology series Dimension 404 anticipated Hulu’s later collaboration with horror legends Blumhouse in their ongoing Into the Dark series of standalone TV films. However, this earlier attempt at exploring the same format received little critical love, with many reviews deriding the offerings of Dimension 404 as little more than a warmed-over Black Mirror clone.

Despite attracting stars like Sarah Hyland, Patton Oswalt, and Lea Michele, the show was cancelled after a limited single series and largely forgotten since. Despite this, revisiting the series reveals that its Twilight Zone-style morality tales owe less to Black Mirror’s bleak stories and more to the more self-consciously corny, comical tone of the nineties Outer Limits revival. This mixture of mean-spirited fun and broad satire won’t be to everyone’s tastes, but it’s a better ride than it got credit for upon release.
