12 Critically Reviled Sci-Fi TV Shows (That Weren't Actually That Bad)
5. The Twilight Zone (2002)
Here in the distant future of 2020, The Twilight Zone
has been through more iterations than almost-blacklisted original creator Rod
Serling could ever have imagined, and the once-revolutionary anthology series
has been criticized every time for failing to live up to the original series’
immense cultural impact.
Most recently, king of socio-politically charged horror sci-fi Jordan Peele produced a revamped version which took on topics as diverse as race, technology, and gender to varying degrees of success, but before 2019’s divisive version the 2000s played host to a more deliberately corny version which was unfairly derided despite injecting some humour and levity into the show’s usually self-serious style.
Yes, the Forest Whitaker narrated iteration of The Twilight Zone is easily the least portentous version of the show, but the sometimes under-baked satire of the 2019 version serves as evidence that more serious doesn’t always mean better, and many episodes of the 2000s revival now make for a fun, light-hearted take on the iconic anthology.
