12 Darkest South Park Moments Ever
6. Crack Babies + Athletics = Profit
Crack Baby Athletic Association (Season 15, Episode 5)
The darkness of this plot is starker due to the episode’s sympathetic opening in which Kyle is moved by a commercial highlighting the plight of crack babies. He is compelled to volunteer at South Park Hospital, which has a large crack baby ward. Cartman is also a volunteer. A suspicious Kyle trails Cartman and discovers his frenemy’s new enterprise, the Crack Baby Athletic Association.
Cartman proposes to give the babies a future by having them compete in Crack Baby Basketball. This involves filming the babies fighting over a little ball filled with crack and uploading the footage to the internet. A clear and uncomplicated violation of an extremely vulnerable group.
In a shock twist, Kyle, one of the shows few moral centres, is persuaded to join the business when he learns they made $1,000 in eleven days. Cartman also has an offer from EA Sports, who will pay $100,000 for the video game rights. However, EA screw The Boys over by tricking them into signing over their rights to the Crack Baby Athletics Association.
The Boys learn a valuable lesson. Big companies have a greater capacity for evil and are able to embark on darker paths than mere individuals.
