When it first happened towards the end of season three, it seemed as though there was nothing that could have made the tragic death of Sarah-Lynn any more depressing. However, this is BoJack Horseman, and things can always get worse.

Season six saw the full details of the night of the pop icon’s death come out not only in the story of the show, but to the viewers as well. Though audiences knew that BoJack was with her when she died, they didn’t know what he did next in what might be the worst thing he has ever done.

To protect himself from any implication in Sarah-Lynn’s death, BoJack took her phone and called his own to create the illusion that they weren’t together at the time. He then waited around for 17 whole minutes, furthering the illusion that he travelled to the planetarium from his home after the call and discovered her after she overdosed. It was only then that he called 911. 17 minutes after he knew she had overdosed.

As if this wasn’t bad enough, Sarah-Lynn wasn’t even dead when the emergency services reached her, she died later in hospital. Those 17 minutes could have been crucial, and could have been the difference between Sarah-Lynn living and dying. Instead of doing everything he could to help his friend, he did everything he could to protect himself, and in doing so ensured her death.
