12 Most Epic Character Introductions In TV History
7. Frank Underwood - House Of Cards
Another ruthless character; however unlike Tywin Lannister, Frank Underwood is less direct and more insidious in his approach. Throughout House Of Cards we have seen political machinations unlike any other; Frank is willing to play the long game and move his pawns with cool consideration to achieve his ends. Like Tywin, Frank is very dangerous, the viper in the crowd and he will take whatever action he feels he needs.
We see this from his very first scene. To the world he is warm and considerate, and he seems to genuinely care when his neighbour's dog is killed. But what we really see is a man who, to quote the man himself "has no patience for useless things." He calmly smothers the dog to put it out of its pain but we have to wonder is it because he doesn't want the dog to suffer or because it is an inconvenience.
But of course, it's not really the dog Frank is talking about, as he addresses the audience with a discussion on two kinds of pain and getting done what needs to be done. What we are really witnessing is Frank's mantra for life and as the series progresses that becomes evidently clear. Nothing, no one will stand in his way to true power.
