12 Northern Stereotypes Game Of Thrones Gets Completely Right

6. "Bastard"

Another thing we enjoy in the North is swearing and "bastard" is one of the finest words to say in a northern accent. No matter what part of the North you're from, it's a word that is more or less spat out. The southern "barstard" just doesn't have that same slap-in-the-face harshness of "bastid". The Northerners of Westeros drop the word every ten minutes, despite them not using it as an exclamation for dropping a scone on the floor or stubbing a toe. Whereas in places like Dorne, the Iron Islands and even King's Landing to some degree, being an illegitimate child of a noble is just seen as something that happens, in The North, it carries the burden of great shame and, therefore, the insulting tone of the northern accent is perfect. What's more, bastards of the North are called Snow which, as Ygritte proves, is just fantastic in a northern accent anyway.
