12 Northern Stereotypes Game Of Thrones Gets Completely Right

7. We're More Down To Earth

It€™s a rarity to get any airs and graces from Northerners. We€™re often perceived as blunt, we have very dry and gently mocking senses of humour, but we€™re also some of the friendliest people you€™ll ever meet, often helping or striking up conversations with complete strangers, just because it€™s in our nature to do so. Perhaps as a result, we€™re sometimes perceived as being a bit simple in the media. Game of Thrones takes the stereotype of us being a simple folk but uses it in a far less insulting way. Rather than us being dimwitted or having little to no aspiration, €˜simple€™ in Westeros seems to mean that, so long as the Northerners have their health, their family and enough food on the table, they€™re happy enough. They are down to earth and truly family-orientated and this is epitomised in Ned Stark. Not like Tywin Lannister, struggling hard to keep his family in power, riches and his name in glory, Stark travels to King€™s Landing in the first place to discover what has happened to his brother-in-law (a man he regarded more as a brother) and to do what he felt was best for his family. We all make mistakes, mate.
