7. Star Crossed Lovers
The saga of Buffy and Angel is one of the great tragic TV love stories. They’re destined to be together, but cursed to be apart. The pure happiness of their love is enough to swipe Angel’s soul, turning him into a particularly blood thirsty detail - a bit of a deal-breaker in any relationship.
But through the lens of 2019, the couple is a little questionable. The age gap alone - 224 years! - is enough to set off alarm bells. Perhaps that kind of funny business would fly back in 1997, but today it doesn’t seem so acceptable.
Leaving aside the major differences between them - one being a tortured, immortal demon, the other being a sacred force for good - they just don’t have much in common. You never see them having a laugh, or even a nice chat. It’s an everything or nothing kind of relationship, and frankly a recipe for disaster.
The show does its best to sell you on the idea that the fact they can’t get it together is devastating, but in reality, they’re not built for the long run. It’s time they face facts - that gypsy curse that keeps them apart is maybe for the best.
