12 TV Comedies You Need To Be Watching
9. Rick And Morty
Even if you aren’t really into cartoons or Adult Swim, Rick and Morty is a show that everyone needs to see. It’s some of the most masterfully written science fiction comedy ever made, animated or otherwise.
The show is kind of like a whacked out sendup of sci-fi tropes, with old man Rick and his grandson Morty going on increasingly crazy adventures through time and space. Their dynamic is like the relationship between Doc and Marty or the Doctor and his companion, except with Rick being completely irresponsible, driving his spaceship drunk the very first time you see him.
There are a lot of animated shows that really just feel like regular sitcoms, and everything that happens on them could happen in live action. But Rick and Morty fully embraces the fact that it’s a cartoon, immersing us in crazy planets and dimensions with the most insane creature designs you could think of.
The series is constantly embracing and subverting sci-fi tropes, like a hilarious play on the plot of shrinking people down and sending them into someone’s body. The writers also go to some insanely dark places at times, not afraid to explore the serious consequences of all these adventures.
It’s a show that really makes you feel like anything can happen, and it’s really the most creative thing on television right now.
