12 TV Comedies You Need To Be Watching
5. Broad City
What if the characters on Girls were actually likable and funny? You'd get something pretty much like Broad City.
The series follows two best friends, Abbi and Ilana, as they struggle to get by living in New York City. It's pretty laid back for the most part, with some of the best episodes just focusing on simple, relatable things going wrong for these girls, like Abbi losing her phone while out at a club, Ilana getting locked out of her apartment, or the two getting hit on by the weirdest guys ever.
It often feels like just a series of sketches, which makes sense considering the show began as a short form web series, but Broad City still has a surprisingly great sense of character development. Even though they're constantly screwing up and getting themselves into trouble, you really care about these girls, and their friendship is one of the most endearing on television right now.
It's a show that can speak to relatable problems but in an often super bizarre and unique way, and for a series about two girls hanging around and smoking weed, it ends up being surprisingly sweet sometimes. You find yourself just wanting to keep hanging out with these characters, and their enthusiasm in the face of the ridiculousness of modern life is downright contagious.
