12 TV Shows You Won't Believe Are 10 Years Old In 2015

11. How I Met Your Mother

When Friends finished in 2004, fans of the long-running sitcom became worried that nothing would satisfy their weekly fix for light-hearted romantic comedy - but they needn't have worried, because just 12 months later How I Met Your Mother arrived on their screens. Based on a freakishly similar premise to that of Friends, How I Met Your Mother followed the lives of Manhattan-based companions Marshall Eriksen (Jason Segel), Lily Aldrin (Alyson Hannigan), Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris), Robin Scherbatsky (Cobie Smulders) - and, most importantly, both Ted Mosby (Josh Radnor, but voiced by Bob Saget) and Tracy McConnell (Cristin Milioti). In order to give the series context, in the year 2030 Ted explains to his son and daughter the events that culminated in him meeting their mother - hence the name - before the story returns to 2005 and plays out the succeeding nine years' worth of relationships, catastrophes and dramas. The use of flashbacks, the characters' obsession with sex and the fast-paced nature of New York life are just some of the reasons the show became such a hit around the world. Following nine series and 208 episodes, the show screened for the final time on March 31, 2014 - and concluded with a controversial twist which divided its fans. Few people predicted a sitcom could rival Friends for popularity, never mind one arriving just 12 months after - but such was How I Met Your Mother's success that it ranks alongside the most-successful sitcom series ever.
