13 Earth-Shattering Doctor Who Moments From The Last 10 Years

9. Regeneration Shocks The Nation (The Stolen Earth)

The Earth-shattering Series 4 finale in 2008 brought the worlds of the Whoniverse together for a spectacular showdown with Davros and his empire of almighty Daleks. Captain Jack Harkness and his ever faithful Torchwood team - well, what was left of it - were doing their bit in Cardiff, Sarah Jane Smith had crossed over from the other side ('the other side' being CBBC) and Martha Jones was somewhere in Germany holding the key to the human race's survival quite literally in her hands. No pressure there, then! Even Rose Tyler had come along for the party and as fans sat with bated breath for the reunion they'd all been waiting for, it was obviously the perfect time for a Dalek to appear out of nowhere and shoot the Tenth Doctor dead. It could've at least waited for them to hug it out. Spoil sport. What followed was one of the most shocking moments in Doctor Who history as the titular Time Lord regenerated before our eyes and, to put it bluntly, nobody really knew what the hell was going on. The week leading up to its resolution saw a blitz of mainstream media interest and at one point it looked like the whole universe was talking about who the next Doctor was going to be. As it turns out, there was no new Doctor after all (all thanks to that handy spare hand) but Journey's End still stands as one of the highest rated episodes in Doctor Who history as over 10 million people tuned in for the aftermath of one of TV's biggest cliffhangers. They almost had us fooled for a minute there. Ok... a whole week.
