13 Most Anticipated Upcoming New Comic Book TV Shows
5. Black Lightning

The CW's superhero roster is already very impressive, what with its four live-action Arrowverse series - Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl - and another couple of animated shows online (Vixen and Freedom Fighters: The Ray). All of this is overseen by Greg Berlanti, and he's set to add yet another hero to the list with Black Lightning.
This one, however, isn't actually part of the Arrowverse, even though Berlanti is executive producer. The standalone series will focus on Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams), a retired superhero who's forced to make a comeback when a gang starts terrorising his local community, where he serves as principal of a charter school and role model to the kids.
If done right the character's various lightning powers should look great on-screen, but there's also a chance to tell a deeper (and rather relevant) story here, bringing more diversity to the genre, and with the New Orleans setting (though it's shot in Atlanta) there's potential for a really different tone to this show.
