13 Reasons Why Season 2 Review: 5 Ups And 7 Downs

3. Alex's Recovery

13 Reasons Why Alex
Netflix

Speaking of Alex, his road to recovery was another high point of the second season. Which is ironic given that we weren't sure he'd even be in Season 2 after his suicide attempt.

But even though he survived, he's still broken. The incident has left him unable to walk without the help of cane, and he has limited use of his right hand. But he is grateful to be alive, which is, perhaps, the message that the show is trying to put out there. That life is worth living. That it can get better.

In addition to his physical pain, Alex also struggles with memory loss. He can't remember the weeks leading up to the incident, which means he has no recollection of Hannah's tapes. This plot thread ran the risk of coming off as repetitive, but it was executed rather well.

The twist that Alex and Montgomery were present when Bryce raped Hannah was unpredictable and, unlike some of the other plot threads this season, worked really well for the overall storyline.
