14 Great Futurama Characters In Only One Episode
4. Ben Rodríguez, And Bev The Soda Machine (The Bots And The Bees – Season 7, Episode 1)
In an emergency meeting call, The Professor makes an exciting announcement that the Planet Express work place finally has a Soda Machine. Her name is Bev and she has a built-in voice and personality. Played wonderfully by Wanda Sykes, she can easily defend herself with a sharp tongue against Bender and actually overpowers him at one point when insulting his antenna for being small.
Later on, when Bender brings back a couple of ‘skanks’ back to the office, Bev refuses to give out drinks to the trashy robots, forcing them to leave. Bender initiates a physical fight with the soda machine engages but the altercation leads to the pair having sexual intercourse.
Shockingly, Bev gives birth to a baby robot the very next day, making her and Bender parents. Having every intention of ditching his new family with an official abandonment certificate, Bev turns the situation against Bender and flees from her son and, making him a single father.
The episode takes an opportunity to show what a good-hearted robot Bender can be as he demonstrates a loving paternal nature to his new son ‘Ben’ and still greatly supports him, despite his infant child having a disability of not being able to bend objects. Much later on when Ben celebrates a passage into adulthood, Bev makes a shocking return to their lives and steals back her son.
Bev becomes the villain of the story, after seemingly starting off as a fun, sassy character who could have potentially put Bender in his place actually turns out to be a child abuser and a woman of low standards, after having another baby with the URL Police robot.
The ending is happy though as the awful Bev is never heard from again and Ben is altered to become a bending unit, even if it means forgetting his parents forever.
