9. The Rescue

A lonely orphan lives under the thrall of a sinister creature called Koquillion in The Rescue, an often overlooked 1965 serial which starred William Hartnell as the First Doctor alongside Barbara and Ian (Jacqueline Hill and William Russell, respectively) and new companion Vicki Pallister, played by Maureen O'Brien, who made her Doctor Who debut in this two-part adventure. its second and concluding episode, 'Desperate Measures', which was first broadcast on 9th January 1965, peaked at 13 million viewers and it was seemingly always destined to do well as it was nestled between the aforementioned Dalek Invasion of Earth and the highly rated historical escapade The Romans, which is coming up as the the next entry in our countdown...
