The Thirteenth Doctor's tenure has not been without controversy, to put it mildly!

Jodie Whittaker was announced to the world as The Doctor in 2016, leading to the predictable onslaught of people bemoaning the fact that The Doctor could never be played by a woman. Her first series debuted in 2017 and was mostly a success, though admittedly let down by an anti-climactic finale.

Her second series rocked Doctor Who fans to the core. What's more, those who had thought themselves on top of the Doctor's numbering system were aghast!

Whittaker had previously worked with showrunner Chris Chibnall on Broadchurch, though Doctor Who was her first lead role with more lines than she could count. She has joked that the production team are never getting rid of her, as there currently are no plans for a regeneration.

Whittaker's casting has breathed new life into the series that is now pushing sixty years old. With a third season on the way (at some point in a post viral future), the sky is the limit for The Thirteenth Doctor and for fans of the franchise again!
